Can we say it's about freaking time? It's been decades since people around Hampton Park started asking for a bike lane. Really, it's never made sense for Mary Murray Drive to have two lanes for cars when the street rarely sees more than a handful of vehicles at a time. This summer, after some fussing and feuding among the park's neighbors (some of whom worried that taking away a car lane would increase traffic), the Charleston City Council finally approved the plan. By winter, the inside lane was quickly converted into a five-foot bike lane and a three-foot pedestrian path. Residents are already making good use of it.
