The intimate, candle lit Oak Barrel Tavern in the Avondale triangle (just across the way from Gene's Haufbrau) concentrates solely on serving craft beer and fine wine in the evenings. From behind the bar, knowledgeable staffers serve a wide selection of unusual ales and lagers, plus a healthy roster of fine vino by the glass and bottle. They especially promote the latest high gravity beers and seasonal specialties featured on the five taps, offering affordable pints (for between $4-$6) and flights of four samples ($8). The food menu consists of simple bar snacks, pretzels, and cheese plates.
