Best New Batgirl

Babs Tarr

Staff Pick

For years, the comic book industry has been dominated by fanboys, but over the past couple of years, things have begun to radically change as more and more geek girls flock to the medium. In part, it’s because the Big Two comic companies have begun focusing on strong female heroines — Spider-Gwen, Silk, a female Thor, Captain Marvel. But some credit has to go to the artists themselves, like Mt. Pleasant’s own Babs Tarr. Thanks to Tarr’s untraditional, anime-inspired pencils, DC’s Batgirl has become one of comic-doms most popular contemporary heroes; the female-friendly stories also play a major role as well. If we had our druthers, Tarr’s illustrations would regularly grace the CP’s cover, but that’s not bloody likely. She’s a legit comic star these days, flying coast to coast and elsewhere to appear at conventions. Congrats, Babsgirl. —Chris Haire
