When Richard Todd left 1250 WTMA last year, the Holy City lost an institution. For two decades, Todd had been one of the Lowcountry’s favorite DJs, first at the long-gone 96 Wave and later as the host of TMA’s morning talker, The Morning Buzz with Richard Todd. The months that followed were certainly not the best in WTMA history, but looking back now, they weren’t as bad as they could’ve been. (Imagine if Todd had been replaced with Bubba the Love Sponge. Ugh.) Eventually, the powers that be at Cumulus managed to bring a new morning host on board, Tara Servatius, a onetime Charlotte Creative Loafing columnist and a talk-radio vet. The first few months were a little hit or miss as Servatius got up to speed with Charleston’s extensive back story, but these days she’s rocking and rolling like she’s been living here for years. And while the WTMA morning show is decidedly different in the era of Tara — she’s a bit more confrontational than her predecessor and she’s more prone to keep the mic to herself than to chit-chat with random callers — Servatius has shown that she’s a more-than-worthy successor to Todd. In fact, we like what she’s doing so much, we invited her to be a regular columnist for us. Kudos Tara.
