We’ll admit we had our doubts when Mt. Pleasant’s long-time community theater company the Village Playhouse said they were packing up and heading downtown. We had even more doubts when we saw the old Meddin Bros. warehouse, which they planned to completely renovate in a matter of months with very little funding. But even though it took a little longer than they expected, and they had to cancel a few of the early season shows, the Woolfe Street Playhouse opened for business this fall. They’re only in phase one of construction, with lots more planned, but they’ve set up a large, functioning theater in a quickly growing part of town, and we think that’s just swell.
