Nothing's more motivating than the threat of death, and Redux reminded us of that with a dramatic mural on the side of their building last fall. City Paper ad exec Nicole Diefenbach was inspired by Candy Chang's similar project in New Orleans, so she pitched Redux the idea to turn to side of the building into a fill-in-the-blank question. Diefenbach and her friends spent a few weeks painting the facade black, then stenciling "Before I die I want to ___" 106 times. A bucket of colorful chalk was placed on the ground, and visitors and passersby were encouraged to share their life goals, whether they were cheeky or heart-wrenching.
