Lowcountry Local First (LLF) is an organization that’s not only dedicated to promoting locally owned businesses, they’re also a supporter of agricultural programs. It was their influence that helped get Community Supported Agriculture off the ground here. Their newest program aims to grow some new farmers in the area, and we need them, especially since Rita Bachmann (Rita’s Roots) has moved her operation to North Carolina. LLF will bring in three apprentices, pair them up with three farmers, and teach them the ins and outs of sustainable agriculture along with the business of farming, giving them hands-on experience in marketing and selling directly to restaurants. The program will work with Rosebank Farm, Fields Farm, and Our Local Food, providing fresh fare to Glass Onion, Al Di La, Med Bistro, Fish, Monza, FIG, and McCrady’s. It’s an exciting new venture and one that will only strengthen our local food economy.
