Over the years, this popular eatery on the west end of the Isle of Palms (overlooking the beautiful scenery of Breach Inlet and the Intracoastal Waterway) has increasingly gone local with its basic seafood dishes. The concept has paid off. Regular customers now expect fresh regional ingredients and high-quality preparation from Chef Charles Arena and his kitchen team. We used to occasionally splurge for traditional seafood platters at local places just to try a decent sample of their best fare. We quit after one too many disappointing dishes. This year, we finally tried again at the Boathouse and were pleasantly surprised by the combo platter ($19.99) of fried oysters, scallops, and shrimp and how delicately prepared and seasoned they were. It's reassuring to find seriously well-made fried seafood in town again. Nowadays, we recommend this place to everyone we can.
