Not only is Jeremy McLellan the reigning first-place audience winner of the 2014 Charleston Comedy Festival Stand Up Competition, he’s also the city’s first satirical candidate for mayor in 2015 (the second is Ohioan Herb Kowalski, the creation of artist Andrew Smock). McLellan won the competition crowds over with his good-natured yet opinionated comedy and he continued to charm at the Stand Up Competition Winners Showcase at the Charleston Comedy Festival in January. As mayor, McLellan promises to tackle the illegal immigrants from Ohio (watch out, Herb), the unlicensed tour guides preying on citizens, and most importantly, the ravages of alcohol. Thankfully, all that campaigning isn’t taking too much time away from McLellan’s stand-up performances — you can still catch him at comedy shows around town. And to decide whether you’ll be giving McLellan your vote in November, check out his Facebook page McLellan for Mayor.
