Best Hope for the Cougars

Adjehi Baru

Staff Pick

Adjehi Baru is not an imaginary or mythical creature, but he did come from a distant, faraway land to join the College of Charleston's men's basketball team. The star freshman — a native of Africa's Ivory Coast — came to the Cougars as one of their highest-ranked recruits ever, and in his inaugural season, the rebounding machine has earned a place in the hearts of fans and coaches alike. Before taking an indefinite leave of absence in late January, head coach Bobby Cremins had high praise for his shot-blocking guru. Although the season was, overall, a disappointing one, Baru and the Cougars played some of their best basketball without Cremins, giving hope for a bright future, with or without their white-haired coach.
