Best Hip-Hop Strings Player

Seth G.

Staff Pick

Seth Gilliard (a.k.a Seth G.) knows what he’s doing on the violin. While he may have gotten popular around town for his string-based covers of hip-hop and pop songs, reworking tunes from musicians like Drake, Justin Bieber, and Tinie Tempah, he’s also classically trained. An alum of the Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry and Furman University’s music school (where he was concertmaster for three years), Gilliard came home from college and started playing the hits. Now he has 300,000-plus views for his covers of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin’ Bout You” and Ellie Goulding’s “Lights.” He released a debut EP last month, and you can catch him at O-Ku on Thursday nights.
