Best Happy Hour Digs to Catch a Seaside Sunset

Vickery's Bar and Grill's Shark Bar

Staff Pick

You may think sunsets are for romance novels, but you will think twice after sampling the view from Vickery's Shark Bar on Shem Creek. Patrons shed tears when Vickery's downtown closed, but they can get the same great food on the other side of the Ravenel. With an unobstructed marsh view that extends into the Charleston Harbor and a no-fuss ambiance, the Shark Bar is easily one of Charleston's most underrated spots to grab an after-work drink. For such a gorgeous seaside city, Charleston is not brimming with restaurants to bunker down in with a brew beside the bodies of water that surround us. Yet the Shark Bar is picturesque year-round. Even during the winter (if Charleston is still officially recognizing that season), there are heat lamps. Though the open-air patio doesn't allow for much seating, the low-key layout is conducive to socializing and snacking on appetizers like the Cajun popcorn or the bleu cheese burger. For those who fancy watching the sun surrender to the moon, just like in those cheesy novels.
