Mascarpone & Balsamic at Paolo’s Gelato Italiano

Sadly, there’s only one gelateria left in Charleston, but Paolo is more than able to fill the void left by Modica. And while all of his hand-made varieties are delish, we still can’t forget a flavor he insisted we try one summer night after a concert at the Music Hall: mascarpone and balsamic. Vinegar in gelato? We surely wouldn’t have chosen it for ourselves, but when Paolo insists, it’s hard to say no. And we’re glad we didn’t. The mild, creamy cheese mixed with the slight tang of the balsamic made for a perfect summer treat. If you ever see it on the menu, don’t even think twice: Order it.
