Local trio Dangermuffin earned some deserved accolades when they released their latest studio album Moonscapes. Guitarist Dan Lotti sang lead on a moving acoustic ballad called "Coffin Island" at the end of the album. Featuring harmonies from North Carolina singer Shannon Whitworth, the slow-rolling tune told the old story about the nickname for Folly Beach in the 1700s. "It was back when ships would come into the harbor," says Lotti. "It was like a leper colony. Before they docked downtown, they'd drop the really sick and dying passengers off on Folly and leave 'em there to die, basically." It's a sweet tune about muddy graves and dying alone, all caught up in the wind.
