Best Downtown Music Venue Reboot

Charles Carmody

Staff Pick

We’ve all seen our fair share of great shows at Charleston’s portfolio of booze-lit rock halls, but in between the Music Farm and the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, there’s a sweet spot waiting to be filled by a comfortable and large venue that can attract big-ticket acts who want to play in an intimate setting downtown. Last year, the Charleston Music Hall hired Charles Carmody to rework and revive the theater’s music lineup, and Charleston got its best new hope that such a place can make it work. Since coming on board, he’s already put the Unchained Tour, Wyatt Cenac, Jeff Mangum, and Shovels & Rope on the marquee, quietly building the Music Hall into a gem of a venue, which the center city has been without for some time.
