County Councilwoman Colleen Condon was first elected in July 2005, and since then she has made a name for herself as an outspoken advocate for her West Ashley constituency. She told voters she would fight the proposed extension of I-526, and she stuck to her word. When an out-of-state owner allowed a mostly-vacant strip mall on Highway 61 to deteriorate, she led the county in suing the owner to force a demolition. And as a member of the finance, audit, planning and public works, and magistrate oversight committees, as well as the CARTA board and the Charleston Museum Board, Condon has a pretty good idea what makes Charleston County tick. As a bonus, Condon gained statewide fame last year as one-half of the first same-sex couple to apply for a marriage license. Her subsequent lawsuit against the state helped bring about marriage equality for all.
