Best Confederate Relic

Chip Limehouse

Staff Pick

Honestly, we don’t know what state Rep. Chip Limehouse was thinking when he proposed moving the Confederate Relic Room and Museum from Columbia to North Charleston. The Relic Room was already a source of controversy because of plans to give the room a $5- then $3-million makeover, a remodel that amounted to a shrine to the Lost Cause. But propose Limehouse did, apparently forgetting that the Confederate flag was finally removed from Statehouse grounds because of a racially motivated shooting on June 17 in Charleston carried out by a Confederate flag wavin’ asshole by the name of Dylann Roof. North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey condemned the proposal when he learned of it, and the folks at the H.L. Hunley restoration site politely passed on the opportunity to offend the portion of the population who isn’t voting for Donald Trump. At the moment, it appears Limehouse’s proposal has stalled, but who knows what will happen next. The Johnny Rebs have been fighting for the Lost Cause for 150 years now, and they don’t show any signs of stopping. —Chris Haire
