The concept of folklore brought friends and contemporaries Ben Hollingsworth and Tim Pakron together at Rebekah Jacob's gallery. Different in style, but similar in their drive to push boundaries and avoid stagnation, Pakron and Hollingsworth filled the gallery walls with their own versions of folklore. Reinterpreting traditional subjects like the Crucifixion (for Hollingsworth) and traditional techniques like gelatin silver print (for Pakron) resulted in a thought-provoking exhibit. Hollingsworth's contemporary take on religious subject matter contained splashes of color and mixed media, while Pakron's stark, black-and-white painterly family portraits communicated personal struggles. True to the tradition of folklore, these innovative artists embraced and reinterpreted the past, offering viewers something they had not seen before.
