Renovation Celebration Dinner at Hominy Grill

Staff Pick

Oct. 2, 2011
If the idea of an entirely vegetarian dinner at a meat-centric Southern-style restaurant like Hominy Grill seemed odd to some, booking all four local microbreweries — Palmetto, COAST, Westbrook, and Holy City — to pair beer with the courses seemed kinda crazy. The Charleston Beer Exchange guys were behind it, too. These breweries normally compete for sales and recognition in the local foodie scene. Last October, they cheerfully joined forces and collaborated like old friends. Brewers from each company were on hand while Hominy chef and owner Robert Stehling served a six-course dinner to celebrate the restaurant's recent renovations. Highlights included Westbrook's yeasty Saisson Ale and unfiltered Zwickelbier, Holy City's malty Shiftee Golden Ale, COAST's sweet and floral Wadmalaw Sunset Belgian Honey Ale, and Palmetto's roasty Espresso Porter. No fights broke out, and no harsh words were uttered.
