If the phrase bending sticks makes you think of the Blair Witch Project, (so old it’s not even 2000 and late) it may be time for an update. The less scary and more informative documentary — and it’s even a legit one, no mockumentary here — Bending Sticks should do. The film looks at the the 25-year career of the environmental artist Patrick Dougherty, who has created hundreds of large, site-specific sculptures around the world using saplings gathered from the installations’ surrounding area. South Carolina gets some love in the documentary as Dougherty’s installation in Rock Hill is documented. And our northern neighbor also gets some screentime as Dougherty’s installations at the N.C. Museum of Art, a private home in Chapel Hill, N.C., and the Bascom Art Center in the mountains are all featured. A question-and-answer segment with the filmmaker will follow the screening as well as a reception.
