The eclectic cellist/songwriter pedals into Charleston

Kentucky-based pop cellist and songwriter Ben Sollee rides through Charleston next week, playing some cool tunes along the way. Sollee gained attention last summer on his Pedaling Against Poverty bike tour to Bonnaroo. He's decided to keep it going this December. Sollee plans to leave via bicycle from Wilmington, N.C. on Fri. Dec. 4 and arrive in Charleston on Tues. Dec. 8 for a gig at The Pour House at 7 p.m. (tickets are available for $10).

"I'm looking forward to cruising at a smooth 13 m.p.h. and being a little sore at the end of the day," Sollee says. "I'm looking forward to climbing the hills that inevitably stand before each beautiful town. I'm looking forward to meeting other folks on two wheels and inviting them to ride with us. I'm look forward to, once again, showing folks that regional touring by bicycle very manageable."

Sollee's latest album is titled Learning to Bend (Sonablast!). His bike tour will also take him to Savannah and Jacksonville. The purpose behind these rides is to raise awareness and buy bicycles for Oxfam America Unwrapped program at every performance along the way. With a cello strapped to his back and strong vision guiding him, Sollee's music is just a small part of the package. Visit bensollee.com for more.
