Margo Kaufman Gallery is teaming up with Pet Helpers to present a unique art show at the Wickliffe House, a beautiful old mansion on Ashley Avenue. Gallery owner/director Jeffrey Rhodes is going around the domicile and taking down the ancestral portraits, replacing them with contemporary works by Margo Kaufman artists.
Painters Townsend Davidson and Kate Long Stevenson have created some scaled-down, recession-friendly pieces, Daniel McSweeney will bring his pottery, and Kirsten Moran, the newest addition to the gallery, will have her Grecian-inspired portraits. Silversmith Kaminer Haislip will also have some bird-inspired pieces, including a set of servingware modeled after the bone structure of bird’s wings.
All of the pieces will be for sale, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to Pet Helpers, along with 100 percent of the door. The no-kill shelter will have adoptable pets at the event. Mediterra and Sugar Bakeshop are catering the event, and we’re looking forward to taking a bite out of the “Margo cupcakes,” which we’re told are Margo’s colors (orange and gray), and will be some interesting flavor. Paintings, puppies, and cupcakes? We’re there. —Erica Jackson
