Meet Geoff Nuttall
Last year's big news was the transfer of this cherished series' directorship from beloved Spoleto legend Charles Wadsworth to Geoff Nuttall, lead violin of the St. Lawrence String Quartet. He'd been groomed for the job for years — so we all knew that Geoff's passionate yet irreverent approach to great music would keep the series' hallmark un-stuffy spirit going strong. But we also had reason to expect some changes — and we got some.

The song remains the same
Three performances each of 11 different programs are spread out over the entire festival, at the rate of two concerts most days. And we'll still get many of the same stellar performers we've come to know and love. But the often controversial tradition of keeping each program's contents a secret until you show up for the concert has been modified a bit. Those booking well in advance will still have to take potluck, but those who insist on getting a peek at the playbill before buying a ticket will find them posted on the festival's website two days in advance of each program. Nuttall is really pumped about getting back to the Dock Street. "The place is better than ever," he says. "Cool, quiet, and comfy — and you still can't beat the warm, woody acoustics."

Fresh trends
If you're a vocal nut, you need to know that this year's biggest guest artist is none other than internationally revered superstar soprano Dawn Upshaw.
