The poolside setting at the newly opened Mixson Bath and Racquet Club pairs perfectly with Básico’s fresh and spicy Mexican-infused fare. The snacks range from grilled butterbeans and pumpkin seed pesto to peel-and-eat shrimp with chipotle, tomato, cilantro, and lime. Tiny charred octopi get spiced up in an arugula salad with pickled onions and serrano, while crispy pork belly gets tossed with mache and watermelon. Tacos and tortas feature the standard stuffings (al pastor, chorizo, barbacoa), along with some not-so-standard options like lamb bacon and porchetta. We highly recommend the heirloom tomato torta, which is basically a giant BLT that oozes into a whole mess of delicious. And the house margarita is strong and tart, as it should be. Be warned: the freshly made corn nuts are addictive little bites to get you started out right. —Stephanie Barna DISH (Summer 2013)
