The folks at Awendaw Green recently arranged an ongoing concert series at the roomy Hippodrome (360 Concord St.). Presented on select Thursdays and a few additional dates, the series offers a chance to catch some of Charleston’s stand-out original rock, pop, blues, and Americana acts, as well as a few up-and-coming bands in the region. The venue is set up with steep stadium-style seating, so there’s almost no bad spot in the house. On Thursday evening, the showcase features local pop/rock band the Explorers Club, a pop-minded sextet that recently released a well-crafted and carefully produced collection titled Grand Hotel. Rock group Restoration and folk group Chompin’ at the Bit String Band open the show at 6 p.m.
