Homemade R2-D2 robots. Paranormal research. Cryptozoology. If any of those topics appeal to you — or if you’re interested in science fiction, anime, tabletop games, or live-action role playing — the All Types of Media Arts Convention (ATOMACON) might be right up your alley. Featured guests include sci-fi writer Jack McDevitt, science writer Les Johnson, and the Blibbering Humdingers, a North Carolina-based wizard rock band whose songs focus thematically on the world of Harry Potter. Local talent will include ukulele-fronted vaudevillian jug band the V-Tones and the creators of the web-and-print comic Undead Norm. Seriously, y’all, this convention is all over the place. From costume contests to live radio drama performance to panel discussions with all manner of kotaku-level experts, it’s going to be a wild weekend. —Paul Bowers
