What do you get when you combine art for a cause with a cross-country bike ride?
Art on Wheels, of course. The City Gallery at Waterfront Park is hosting the silent auction and send-off party for Brunswick to Baja, a 6,000-mile cross-country bicycle fundraiser to benefit SideWalk Chalk, an organization that aims to raise literacy rates and arts education in Charleston’s Title 1 schools. Photographer Ben Gately Williams (a former
City Paper contributor) and art dealer Sean Ferneau are teaming up to throw the event, which will feature original artwork from over 25 of Charleston’s most popular artists. Bid on traditional and contemporary works from Tim Hussey, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Timothy Pakron, Hirona Matsuda, Karen Ann Myers, John Duckworth, and more. There will be an open bar with cocktails provided by Social Restaurant & Wine Bar, beer from Holy City Brewing, and live music from Aesthetic. Bidding begins at 7 p.m., and proceeds will go toward Brunswick to Baja, Williams’ and fellow rider Jason Neuman’s bike journey from Brunswick, Maine, to Baja, Calif. To keep the evening going, head to Social for the official
Art on Wheels after-party.
