Galleries from across the Southeast and the Lowcountry will be selling original art and prints at the second Gibbes Museum Art on Paper Sale. “People can enjoy the Art Walk on First Friday and then come to the gallery and get first dibs on the pieces,” says Gibbes coordinator Lasley Steever. “We’ll have a range of mediums and art styles — from drawings, photos, watercolors, and oils to modern style and Charleston Renaissance — so there’ll be a little something for everyone.” Experts in paper conservation, appraisals, and art preservation will be on hand to answer questions and conduct demos in pastels and printmaking. Local artisan boutiques like Sideshow Press will also be displaying (and selling) a selection of handmade notecards and art books. Steever assures us that anyone can become a fine art collector. “It’s always a good time to start collecting art. Educate yourself at events like these, and you’ll become much wiser.” If you’d rather browse than buy, the party will be stocked with beer and wine and treats from Roti Rolls, the Macaroon Boutique, AutoBanh, and Cory’s Grilled Cheese.
