My own mythology. Curated by Hirona Matsuda, this show features nine local artists who have come together to celebrate the art of storytelling. Lisa Abernathy, Becca Barnet, Seth Corts, Baird Hoffmire, Michelle Jewell, Xin Lu, Lisa Shimko, Liz Vaughan, and Trever Webster encourage viewers to step inside and expand their definition of fairy tales.
Non-traditional artists. This is not your ordinary exhibit of landscape oil paintings. With taxidermy, paper cuts, mixed media, and illustration, this collection will not bore you. "So many people think of art as strictly painting," says Corts, who, with wife and fellow artist Abernathy, came up with the idea for the show. They wanted to feature non-traditional artists like Vaughan, who uses a letterpress to create her mixed-media images, and Jewell, who cuts fabric by hand to create contemporary toy sculptures.
Comic books and classics. Glimpses of classic children's tales by Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm, as well as comic book characters, can be found throughout the exhibit. A bear dressed like Little Red Riding Hood peeks from behind a tree while a suburban wolf-man howls at the moon.
