The State has an expansive package of stories on AIDS in South Carolina. One today includes the tale of Dr. Robert Ball, a Charleston physician who identified South Carolina's first case of AIDS back in 1982.

CHAMP (Charleston Area Mpowerment Project) is proud to announce the return of Big Gay Beach Day 5.0! This free event is open to the public and will take place on Saturday July 19th at Folly Beach, 11am – 5pm. Along with informal volley ball games, prizes will be awarded in our sand sculpting contest, relay race, and Lube Wrestling Contest. Our traditional Tug Of War men vs. women will end the day—last year the ladies won, so let’s see who’s got it this year! Free Red Bull ™ will be available. Donations are encouraged. Please remember Folly rules: alcohol is permitted (no open containers, no glass—bring a koozie); no pets; park with your tires off the pavement going with the flow of traffic. All are welcome! The event is sponsored by Patrick’s Bar & Grille, Red Bull ™, and Hardee Marine Sheet Metal.

Parties are going on all over town each year when Dining with Friends rolls around. Now in its 16th year, this mega-fund-raiser is easily one of the most recognizable events on the social calendar.
