The loss was expected by gay rights groups nationally, but that preservation of previous marriages is good news for folks like Bryan and Michael.

Local gay rights advocates at the Alliance for Full Acceptance have two new billboards up on I-26 with a message that should spur conversations about how today’s movement for gays relates to the long fight for racial equality.

One of the billboards has two water fountains with one labeled “straight” and one labeled “gay” — a reference to the days of segregation of whites and blacks in every facet of daily life — with the tagline “Gay Rights Are Civil Rights.”

“If there are images that will stop people and make them think about it, then I think we should use it,” says Warren Redman-Gress, executive director of AFFA.

Glenn McCall, South Carolina's first black representative on the National Republican Committee, told a group of young Republicans over the weekend that the party has to focus on its base while also reaching out to minority groups.

He said the party can reach out to Hispanic and black voters without diluting its message.

A Myrtle Beach principal has pulled a student newspaper (independently financed by advertising) because of an editorial supporting gay marriage.

The principal of the academy near Carolina Forest, Ronnie Burgess, said that he was concerned that the editorial, which was printed on the front page with a picture of two male students holding hands, would be disruptive to the school.

The event Nov. 15 was a huge success. It was terrific to see all of the people come out and support equality.

GOP running mate Sarah Palin spent her weekend telling the 700 Club that she would support a federal amendment to the Constitution banning gay marriage.

The Log Cabin Republicans leader Patrick Sammon (a good guy) spent a few moments today trying to defend their endorsement of Sen. John McCain.

              WHAT?!!!!!

In a classic case of "you're only as good as your people are", US Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) has a link on his website's disclaimer to a video that is prima facie unfunny and a fine example of gay-bashing...plain and simple.

You would think that a UNITED STATES SENATOR would have a better grasp of what his website masters and his political consultant Warren Tompkins are up to back at the home office.

Two United States Senators implicated in extramarital sexual activity have named themselves as co-sponsors of S. J. RES. 43, dubbed the Marriage Protection Amendment.

I would say that Sen. Robert Ford's support in the gay community is mixed. I've heard very good things and I've gotten very disturbing scowls when his name has come up among gay friends.

The front-page article in this weekend's New York Times Magazine looked at the twenty-something married couples sprouting up after Massachusetts made it legal for gays and lesbians to wed.

The author talks about a conversation he had with other young gay Bostonians in 2004.

Three local rabbis discuss the issue:

There has been a dramatic change in norms governing sexual behavior in America. As a result, issues about sexuality and homosexuality have been a recurring theme, and often a divisive one, for every religious denomination in America, including the various branches of Judaism.
