First off, it is a completion which has been in the works for 30 years. Further, years ago, it was discussed about the Charleston County Park, with the ultimate decision to cut an edge off of the park, NOT cutting "through" the park.

Nothing has changed since April 2011, when County Council unanimously rejected the highway. They must still vote for either: the stoplight riddled, slow speed Alternative G "Parkway," with 4 at- grade intersections grinding James Island to a halt, or "no build."

Look at the facts. This will be a nightmare for poor African American families who have called Johns Island home for a long time.

I worry a bit when any government representative arbitrarily says he/she "would like to widen this or re-route that". Unless they're a civil engineer with expertise in traffic flow.

The last time politics won over engineering, business development of the Navy Base halted because a government official had money ties to a certain rail company.

The time before that, the railroad was sent to the Navy Base from its intended Daniel Island location, likely also due to some hidden money.

The time before, Hungryneck and the mess it created, trying to route around a bunch of subdivisions (that were themselves allowed by poor city planning).

I'm not well-versed on the Spruill narrowing for bike lanes, but I hope smart planning was done there.

Maybe Rawl is a traffic engineer or has experts advising him and he's not deciding based on what he thinks would be nice.
