Parties always move slightly to the right at election time. In the case of the Democrats it is necessary so that the generally unimformed public will not be shocked and vote against them.

"Unemployment is still a problem in the country that neither party is tackling, because the people who are in charge of those parties are directly beholden to the corporate interests who are benefitting directly from the system, as it currently exists."
Perhaps you could explain how these interests benefit. Seems to me they would benefit more if no unemployment was paid, as broke people will work for less pay.

"The Dow Jones Industrial Average is at 13,000, a figure higher than at any time in the last decade."
The Dow, or better the S an P 500, are also subject to inflation, so to only be where they were a decade ago is a loss.
Even with only say 2% inflation compounded, the marketss would have to gain at least 25% in 10 years just to break even.

At this point, I would say the Libertarian Party (look up their platform) are a closer representation of what most 'liberals' actually support. That is, less wars, less stupid laws that benefit huge corporations and harm people, more common sense.
