Foodmancing: That looks like something I might watch sometime. Again, I wouldn't be surprised if somehow there was an event very early on in human history that somehow survived in the oral tradition throughout a few thousand years of migration.

I think that's probably part of it - along with the fact of oral traditions changing pretty boring stories ("it rained pretty hard for a couple of days, so we left") into something more interesting ("it rained for two straight months and all but 6 of our people died")...

There is pretty good circumstantial evidence that *something* happened at some point in human history that approximated severe and widespread flooding - as almost all world religions or cultures carry some version of the flood myth.

There are even pre-Columbian flood myths in the Americas.
