"But the truth of the matter is they aren't the Occupy movement."

So let me get this straight: young people can be away at work for hours and can waltz in to camp overnight and they get to be appointed "core members," while older folks who may have spent many hours there during the day don't count because they may have to leave for whatever reason? What, is nighttime occupation somehow more valuable than daytime occupation?

"My feeling is that this is primarily a youth-driven movement and older folks are latching on to for their own reasons."

LOL.

I wish the piece had asked where are the college students in this protest?

      Katzndogmas,

Your statement that the protesters of the 50's, 60's and 70's should be credited with such amazing inventions as space travel, polio vaccine, x-rays, microwaves, computers, cell phones, the internet, DNA sequencing, heart transplants, lasers, contact lenses, ATMs ..., is one of the dumbest things I've read this week.

"Space travel" (I think you meant exploration) was initiated to defend the US against communist aggression via space based weapons platforms. The polio vaccine was developed in 1952 (before your protesters came to be) because Lederle Laboratories invested millions of dollars to bring a needed and profitable product to market.

Apparently Mr Haire missed the photograph of the 88 year old gentleman who marched on Wall Street using a walker. If they will simply listen, the youth of today can learn much from the older generation whose protests of the 50s, 60s and 70s ended a war, segregation, sexism and the Nixon presidency.

I'm sure it's theoretically possible that you could have been just a tad more patronizing while talking about the "old white people", but offhand I'm not sure how.

Before I forgot (because of my old age), thanks for clearing up who's eligible to be part of the Occupy movement: now I know that staying overnight is required.

It does surprise me that, as a member of the media, you're down on people who talk to the media.
