Before building an ill-advised Interstate Highway traversing Johns and James Islands in the name of safety during evacuation I suggest steps be taken to fund and sustain emergency evacuation transportation for a goodly number of residents. At the public hearing held on Johns Island last year an elderly gentleman from a multi-generational Johns Island family indicated that 95% of the people in this category don't own automobiles.

Greg Hambrick - I know that it is a matter of semantics but there seems to be an intent in using the word "extention" by local media to make it seem as though this is a whole new plan, which is not the case. It has always been planned since the idea came up in the early 70s to build a loop around Charleston that would include John's Island.

Technically it is an extension of the existing road but a completion of the planned road.

My previous point has been that you can't "complete" the highway without "extending" it from Savannah Highway to the Connector.

Correction - this is not about an extension of 526, it is about the completion of 526. It would be nice if the local media would get it correct.

There were alot more "build it" people at the County Council meeting last night than have been in the past and they far outweighed the "don't build it" crowd.
