Anyway, the US government at least for now provides protection from religious wackos; and since the US government supersedes the state government, as it should, no worries.
And it would take a long, sustained, period of religious conservatives in the US government to overthrow the Constitution that protects us from them.
Again, states are an anachronism given to us by the British, that extra layer of redundent government serves no real purpose other than to cost us money we can ill afford.
Send them all home and quit paying them.

You end up under their political desires because you choose to stay here and live under them. Unless you're typing from prison, under house arrest or assigned here by the military, you have any of 49 other sanctuaries to which you can go if the Upstaters make life here too unbearable for you.

The benefits are:
One uniform set of laws nationwide.
We get to send home and stop paying all Governors, state legislators, state courts, and even the US Senate, etc, etc, etc. The savings from eliminating all redundant functions would be enourmous. Less government, should appeal to the Tea Party!
One representative from each million person county.
And best of all, no more nonsense talk of secession.

And the attempt at secession during the Hartford convention DESTROYED the Federalist Party. So evidently the US had a non-partisan history of disliking secessionists before the civil war.

No one has said that the North fought to end slavery, everyone knows that the north was just as, if not more racist than the south, however the south specifically stated on numerous occasions that it fought to protect the institution of slavery.

So the hundreds of thousands of American men that died in the war died because the south wanted to protect the institution of slavery.

Start with Southern leader's Five Ultimatums March of 1861--- go read them --- that slavery MUST be spread.

Southern newspapers joyously reported the Five Ultimatums as "THE TRUE ISSUE" (March 21, Richmond Enquirer)
