Oh, god, the notion of a Kindle or Nook being the end-all, be-all library for children and students terrifies me. Nothing compares to the smell of a book, snuggling into a dark corner of a library and reading yourself silly, accidentally tearing a page of a library book and hoping to goodness the librarian doesn't notice when you turn it back in, the surge of panic when at the end of summer you discover under your bed that book you'd checked out when school let out and never read... these are all tiny little threads that make up the fabric of childhood memories and I for one hope it's a tradition that carries on. Then again, I was a non-athletic, artsy-fartsy bookworm, so I don't know how common these experiences are.
