<![CDATA[I just have two words for the Columbus Symphony board:

    GET OUT

What needs to happen, in Columbus and elsewhere, is to draft bylaws that include voting rights for every member of the organization. A vote of "no confidence" in one or more members of the board or management, replete with adequate and ready replacements, would go a long way in heading off these intransigent situations.

The orchestra system in this country is doing very well at maintaining and improving the quality and longevity of its musicians. People are playing excellently all over. Now it's time to improve the other parts, namely leadership and representation. Bring on the VOTE! This would be a great check and balance to a power that right now has none.

<![CDATA[Thank GOD for people like Mr. Hirokami! I can't believe the C'bus is actually going to allow their city to be "music free". Lets face it, if you reduce the size of the symphony, its called a BAND! Duha! These musicians are talented professionals that deserve better treatment, the fact is, most of them make far less than 60,000 a year, maybe half of that if they are lucky, and we are all having trouble making ends meet. If management had done their jobs, they wouldn't find themselves in this situation and putting it on the musicians now. What other job have you ever had where you bring your computer or other equipment to your job, and maintain it as well. All these people do at no charge to management.
To bad the children will suffer with no real music heros. C'bus, will have alot of children that won't be able to hear classical, jazz, and fantastic music ever again, not to mention the known fact that music in a childs life helps them in other areas like math and science. Aww, heck, lets just let the kids in C'bus have mush for brains like the management of the C'bus Symphony does.
