What a wonderful story, and a very interesting ending. However, this type of intrusion has been going on for years, Whether it comes under the form of personal greed or government expansion, the results are the same.

Every place has a history, and every place has a story to tell. Many of these places and stories are important not only to local residents and their families, but to al of us for it is these places and stories that give a place a personality.

As a non-Southerner who had to move here due to company relocation, I find it interesting how separatist the society here is. I was under the impression this was America and we are all Americans. (I'm sure Native Americans would have an interesting view of "Southerners" use of much of the land.)

I agree with gcolleton, but would add that for all the disparagment lodged at Southerners and South Carolinians reacting negatively to the many non-Southeners and non-South Carolinians who keep moving to the Lowcountry by the truckloads - there is some justification for their demographic woes.

That most white and well-to-do Mt. Pleasanters, native or otherwise, call Scanlonville, "Remley's Point" (being from Hanahan, I had never heard of either), is an outline of the differences between residents - folks who simply chose the area because they find the geography convenient, the real estate affordable and enjoy the view - and folks who never chose it, but rather Scanlonville chose them - they were born into it, it remains a part of them, and naturally want to preserve it.

Far from being universally deplorable, reactionary attitudes and even bigotry against outsiders are often not only understandable, but healthy, wholesome and dare I say patriotic.

As I read this remarkable story of victory for our people in this area, it wakes me up to know that this is just one of so many more communties experiencing this vey same fight all over south carolina because the people moving here do not recognize the property that they possess has our history and memories right under their feet. I hope that some one else will read this story so they can sense of how important the land truly is and what it is to others beside just a another beautiful area.
