Light, effervescent, and poured out of a wine bong (ie. a porron), Txacoli (cha-co-LEE) is easily our favorite summer wine.

Before the start of last Wednesday’s sparsely attended Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration meeting, Frank Heindel turned around in his seat to ask a question of the woman sitting behind him: “You don’t think I’m crazy, do you?”

On Saturday, conservation groups in 22 states and 8 nations overseas will stand along their coastlines in solidarity against offshore drilling in the annual "Hands Across the Sand" event.

The event, happening locally on Folly Beach and in nearby Garden City and Hilton Head Island are designed to raise awareness for alternative energy, "to say “no” to offshore drilling and “yes” to clean energy" as Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Coastal Climate and Energy Coordinator Chris Carnevale said in a P&C letter to the editor on Friday.

Singing super-group The Shock T's have performed in Charleston so many times, we forget they actually live in Chicago. They're returning for their third Piccolo Spoleto performance May 31-June 2, and they recently posted a video to encourage local audiences to attend their show.

Loudmouthed tourists and college kids carom down King Street, swinging from light poles and yelling incoherently. Chemically uninhibited tough guys pick fights with bouncers, cops, and perfect strangers on the City Market. Grown adults pee on the sides of buildings. Is this cause for a clampdown?

There's no telling what you'll catch when you go fishing off the pier at Folly Beach. Sometimes it's an ordinary whiting, and other times it's a gorgeous, and delicious, king mackerel or a prized red drum.
Near the northern end of a city known for its architectural elegance, Charleston's East Central neighborhood is dominated by highway overpasses, crumbling sidewalks, and rows of low-income housing units. There is a lot of concrete and a lot of poverty.

It's no longer legal to drink alcohol on any of Charleston's beaches. That doesn't mean people don't do it or that you'll be caught if you're discreet, but we're certainly not going to tell you to break the law by drinking pre-mixed concoctions from stainless-steel water bottles or beer out of a Camelbak.

A couple of weeks ago I broke a window in a poorly thought-out plan to shoo a large, flying insect out of the house. I patched up the window with cardboard and tape and started asking around for repair estimates. This is a normal enough situation, one that really shouldn't raise any eyebrows.
