All I know is, I used to vote Republican for the most part. Now that the GOP is allowing the proverbial tail to wag the dog (see Tea Party), I'll be hard pressed to ever vote Republican again. I'm not sure who said it -- many have claimed to -- but, "the Tea Party is just the KKK without the hoods and robes."
It's not eminent domain. The trailer park residents aren't the owners, but I have to agree that their lives will go on and I'm sure they'll find another place to park their castles on wheels. Two months free rent may even cover the moving costs, although I doubt it. The property owner has every right in this case.
"I spent a career carrying typically either an M16, and later an M4 carbine. And an M4 carbine fires a .223 caliber round, which is 5.56 millimeters, at about 3,000 feet per second. When it hits a human body, the effects are devastating. It's designed to do that. And that's what our soldiers ought to carry. I personally don't think there's any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America. I believe that we've got to take a serious look. I understand everybody's desire to have whatever they want, but we’ve got to protect our children, we’ve got to protect our police, we've got to protect our population. And I think we have to take a very mature look at that."
--Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal
We never heard anything out of Cannon when President Bush signed a similar executive order in 1989 or President Clinton signed one in 1998 and 2001. Perhaps there's something about President Obama that Cannon doesn't like.
Those throwing up District of Columbia v. Heller would be well advised to read the Opinion of the Court delivered by Justice Scalia in its entirety. It states, "Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose."
Unlike cars, knives, hammers -- useful tools which some like to inaccurately portray as deadly equivalents to firearms -- there is only one purpose for military style weapons: to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible. There is no reason for the general populace to have these types of weapons. None. Period.
And don't say that gun control doesn't work. How would we know? The current, impotent gun control laws we now have are so full of runarounds and loopholes, they ban almost nothing.
It's time to move beyond your paranoia. If the black helicopters are coming for you, do you really think you'll be able stop them? Ruby Ridge and Waco come to mind.
