Straight Talk Express: "We control the local government, the state legislature, the Governor's Mansion, the US House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, and the last 2000 years of western history. LOOK AT HOW OPPRESSED WE ARE!"
AELPryor: Thank you for your classy post, and I respect your opinion. I don't personally feel that McConnell is a racist, and to be honest I don't know that he'd do a "bad" job. I (and a lot of like-minded people) are simply vehemently opposed to the apparent Boss Tweed-style cronyism spoils system and politics of an ostensibly academic appointment. Also, for an academic position we much prefer an academic rather than a non-practicing JD politician/businessman.
Dp4: Aww poor oppressed conservatives. A single tear is trailing down my cheek for you.
The funny thing is many, many conservatives think the "liberal" in "liberal arts" ACTUALLY DOES EXACTLY mean "progressive-liberal-US political doctrine" rather than the "classical arts" use of the term.
I wonder what would would happen if we told them about how their current political ideology is rooted in what political scientists and economists call "classical liberalism" ... we'd see some heads explode.
I'm pretty sure I saw that episode of HBO's "Oz."
You da man, Piedmont!
Hey look, right on cue someone showed up to claim this is REALLY all "the left's" fault. THEY'RE the intolerant ones. And look! We've even got the "Dems are the REAL rayssiss ones!!1" canard AND the stereotyping of an entire religion. The trifecta! I wonder how conservative Christians would feel if we stereotyped their entire religion based on the actions of Timothy McVeigh. Or the early modern witch hunts.
Oh, and yes, giving away a book that's not actually a course requirement in an attempt to promote analytical thought and encourage students to actually READ something is "constantly pushing and forcing of homosexuality onto the American public."
As a friend would say, "you just can't make this stuff up."
