It was ANYTHING but a legal adoption. Many laws circumvented starting with the removal of the infant from the state of Ok in her f
irst week of life.
John Cecil, blood quantum has no bearing, Dusten and Veronica ARE Citizens of the Cherokee Nation PERIOD
Ellie was it not YOU that stated Dusten is an abusive father? because the C's DID exhaust all their appeals and were ordered to hand Veronica over, no transition because they withheld her for nearly 3 months. You tried to demonize Dusten with your initial post and now you want to "soften the edges" and pretend otherwise??
The C's have said MANY things and they are not honorable in any way from what I've seen. They were ordered to turn Veronica over to Dusten in Sept of 2011 yet they did not, they exhausted all appeals over the course of nearly 3 months before they finally gave her up on Dec 31, 2011 when all appeals had run out. Dusten has offered shared custody, he keeps Veronica during the school year and she would spend summers and holidays in SC, the C's turned that down. Dusten then offered that the C's have Veronica during the school year and he would have her during the summer and holidays, again they turned that down. Really?, who exactly do you believe are the abusive parties here? It's all or nothing with them and if it were up to me they would get nothing, Veronica is Dusten's child. They do not have Veronica's best interests at heart, they are "in it to win it"
and I am completely disgusted by their claims to "love" this child when they are behaving in this way.
EllieB you base your accusation of Dusten as an abusive parent because he was awarded custody of HIS daughter and brought her back to his home in Ok??...so by that account then the C's would also be abusive parents if they somehow are able to take Veronica back to their home in SC. By the way, there are many pictures to support Dusten's account that Veronica did not "cry" for her prospective adoptive parents, she was quite comfortable with her father and that connection between them has grown and strengthened to the point that it can NEVER be broken now. She will always know who her father is and she will always love him and want to be with him.
