Re: “High school educator leaves School of the Arts for a state with better pay

As a recent graduate of SOA, I'm saddened by Mr. Donnellon's decision to leave (though I completely understand the reasons behind it). As a future educator, I must admit that it is rather daunting to begin a career in teaching because (if you are a good teacher for the most part) you will usually have long hours and an inadequate salary. That being said, my comment to those who believe Mr. Donnellon is "whiny" or "greedy" is that he is by far one of the hardest working and most dedicated teachers I have ever had and I believe he deserves better wages. It is a shame that such a dedicated teacher as Mr. Donnellon (among others) would even have to consider relocating to be able to support a family. It is my opinion that if teachers had better salaries, they would hold themselves to higher standards.
