Well, good people, it's been real. I made my points and I've heard yours. Thanks to city paper for providing this forum.
BTW, check out Joe's comments about this today on Morning Joe. Maybe it will resignate more coming from him.
Be well and let not your heart be troubled.
In the case you sited, that child was out with two other kids at 3am in the morning breaking into cars. The boy that was sadly killed was said to have lounged at the shooter. These things were admitted by the two kids that were with Roderick. At least one of the kids was drunk according to the police report. It's still a travesty that he was killed. I could understand him trying to stop them his stealing his stuff but he could've called the police and stayed inside his house.
I still don't know what the kids breaking into people's cars at 3am have to do with the kid walking home from the store at 7pm with paid items (a drink and candy) in his pocket.
I said "you all on this thread" have decided that Trayvon had to be an enraged, thugged out, violent, criminal. I don't know if your white, black, asian or latino. The posts sound that way to me. So, calm down.
I repeat, I was born and raised in downtown chucktown. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Truth, are you kidding me? I'll give it to you. You found a 17 year old who was shot and killed by a black man. The man was aquitted, true, but are you kidding me? NO parent should have to bury their child. My heart goes out to the Cervini family. With that said, the other two boys who were with Roderick that night admitted that they were breaking in and stealing out of cars. The shooter saw them in his car and went outside. I don't know if Roderick lounged towards the shooter as he claimed. This is what the two other boys said in their initial statements to police. I can't imagine why just showing the gun was not enough.
TRAYVON was not doing ANYTHING WRONG!!! GZ did not catch him doing anything!! Indeed he was going home. For some mystical reason, you all on this thread have decided that Trayvon had to be an enraged, thugged out, violent, criminal.
Like I stated before, I was born and raised in downtown chucktown. The more things change, the more they stay the same
Cid95, I was not going to answer you but I respect the conversation even if I disagree with the comments. The girl probably did say he gradded her. Why else would he follow her then approach her? Thank God that creepy dude did not shoot her through the heart so now we have her side of what happened.
Ok guys, I followed this case since I learned about it last year. I watched the entire trial even when I had to dvr it. I followed it because it's yet another situation that taps into the painful past of this country that has everything to do with race.
Side note: gz's mother is from peru but he checked "white" on his school application. Replay the registrars' testimony. That says a lot about how he saw himself.
Anywho, in order to believe gz was not guilty you would have to believe the story gz told. There is NO evidence that Trayvon approached gz. There is NO evidence that Trayvon hit gz first. There is NO evidence that Trayvon was anything that night other than a kid who went to the store to get himself a drink and some candy for his step brother. Assumptions outside of those facts about Trayvon has everything to do with race. I don't believe a word gz said. I believe he is a pathological liar. I believe that is how gz averted jail time for beating his girlfriend a few years ago. I believe that is how gz ended up in anger management classes and not jail for hitting a police officer a few years ago. His dad being a magistrate probably help too.
I don't buy gz's story at all. Given that, I believe Trayvon ran from the creepy man. He avoided going home and leading the creep to his 12 year old step brother at home. I believe the creepy gz went down the "T" looking for the teen. When he found him Trayvon asked "why are you following me?". One witness saw gz on top then another saw the teen on top. There is NO witness to the initial contact...except the gun carrying, girl beating, cop assaulting, creepy child stalking murderer. You have to use your assumptions to figure out who hit first. I don't dismiss the girl who was on the phone with Trayvon. I believe that the "thump" she heard after gz asked "what are you doing around here?" was GZ trying to grab the teen (even if only to hold him until the police arrived). You'll really be freak out about this... I believe that georgie porgie had the gun out the hold time. Trayvon fought for his life. Gz is lucky yet again. He's lucky that no one saw him grab that child. He is lucky that those jurors related more to him and the home invasion victim they cleverly put on the stand. He's lucky that the jurors did not relate to Trayvon or the girl on the phone. He was believed defying logic. What a lucky, privileged murderer. Maybe now that gz's dad is retired he will kept his hands and gun to himself
