Re: “High school educator leaves School of the Arts for a state with better pay

To Anybody Currently in a Teaching Program:

Get out now. Take a new course of study. You are paying a lot to go to college, find a field that pays better and doesn't face the constant derision by politicians, parents, and administrators. In a school environment, there is very few people that are on your side. The pay sucks for the first ten years and only improves if you get a masters. Meanwhile, you have to face this crap where a bad set of test scores by your students is interpreted as you are a cruddy teacher.

You may be one of the best teachers in the state, but your life will be scrutinized, your efforts criticized, and most people think you have a cushy job because you work ten months of the year. It isn't worth it.

Don't say you haven't been warned.

Sincerely,

Former Teacher
