Re: “The Charleston County School District board should be fired

Localhutch sounds like someone who has never taught a day in their life. I wonder if they are aware if the massive shortage of young people going into teaching nor know of the over 50% of new best teachers who leave the profession within 2 years. It is the best interest of schools to keep teachers because they are the ones to do the work called teaching. I know of no job where so much is asked for and so little given in return than being a teacher in South Carolina.

The 18 million dollar shortfall needs to be investigated and clearly documented. The State needs to do this since it is clear that the board has failed to do its most important job - oversees the district. The entire board must step down as does the Super, accountability starts with them and they have only themselves to blame.

As for changes in the state it is time that school report & fiscals documents need to be submitted as notarized reports subject to legal prosection for false or inaccurate reporting. The members of the state school boards need to be personally libel like members of nonprofit boards are for failure of their oversight responsibility and finally these positions should not be paid. Time after time we see the low person on the toteem pole pay for the mismanagement of the top - we and our future deserve better.

Re: “Why are Florida schools moving forward and ours falling behind?

I wish the huge effort to create a voucher system in this state that will benefit a small % of student was used to repair our public schools. I would be looking at school boards and parents instead of Governors and teachers. Fix our schools!
