Re: “Is Charleston becoming an economic powerhouse?

I'm not sure where in Charlotte Adam lives, but in the 7 years I've lived here, my experience has been quite different. The light rail has exceeded it's ridership projections well ahead of schedule. It's spurred the development of several thousand apartments along the line, along with a revival of Southend retail. Construction on the light rail expansion to north Charlotte is set to begin later this year. Regarding employment, which I follow pretty closely, about year ago Charlotte was only a few thousand off its peak employment numbers from 2008. So, not sure where 32k jobs come from. Maybe 3.2k jobs, but definitely not 32,000. Also keep in mind people are still moving to Charlotte in droves, despite the recession from 2008-09. It's why unemployment hasn't drastically shifted downwards. Taxes here aren't as low as they were 20 years ago, but they are still way better than they are up north and out west (i.e Cali, Oregon, Wash, etc). I've traveled up that way plenty and have many receipts to prove it.
