In the tri-county area, victims should contact People Against Rape (which is still providing essential services on an all-volunteer basis) at 745-0144. For a forensic exam, they should report to MUSC's Emergency Room and they have up to 120 hours (five days) post-assault to do so. The exams are given at no cost to the patient. Also, victims have the option of filing an ANONYMOUS report at the time of the exam, which will allow them to have evidence collected without having to involve law enforcement. They then have up to one year to convert the anonymous report into an active investigation.
